ČSN EN ISO 3834 – 1 to 5
Requirements for quality during welding:
EN ISO 3834 has become the standard for welding process requirements. Normally, the fulfilment of requirements is required within the framework of commercial contracts; newer product standards require their fulfilment within the framework of production and product requirements. In many organizations, where a quality management system according to ČSN EN ISO 9001: 2016 is implemented, the requirements of ČSN EN ISO 3834-1 to 5 are applied at the same time.
Division of ČSN EN ISO 3834-1 to 5:
Quality requirements during welding: Fusion welding of metallic materials.ČSN EN ISO 3834-1 Part 1: Guidelines for selection and useČSN EN ISO 3834-2 Part 2: Higher quality requirementsČSN EN ISO 3834-3 Part 3: Standard quality requirements.ČSN EN ISO 3834-4 Part 4: Basic quality requirements.ČSN EN ISO 3834-5 Part 5: Documents to be followed for compliance.
Series of standards ČSN EN ISO 3834:
* Specifies in its individual parts the requirements for the welding process.* Independent of the type of welded construction.* Specifies the quality requirements for welding in workshops and assemblies.* Provides instructions on how to express the manufacturer's competence to produce welded structures with specified requirements.* Serves as a basis for the manufacturer's competence for welding.* The choice must correspond to the type of welded product produced and the requirements placed on it.
Guidelines - Production and inspection records
Concerning product standards, the manufacturer must have an established and regularly certified quality system for welding. They must draw up and implement the Quality Directive and related documents and records. The purpose of the directive is to describe the functioning of the system in the organization and to provide customers and supervisory authorities with information on how the manufacturer meets the legal requirements. Introduction of a quality system for welding according to EN ISO 3834 is an integral condition for obtaining authorization to perform OK according to EN 1090-1.
Overview of ISO 3834 requirements
Review of requirements and technical documents:
Welding supervisionThe manufacturer must demonstrate that each of the requirements of ISO 3834 has been understood. The aim is to ensure that the manufacturer understands the technical requirements and that the product is manufactured in conformity and according to the contract.According to ISO 14731, welding supervision is established for this activity. SD reviews contracts and production documentation. The manufacturer must ensure that welding and related activities are carried out in accordance with the requirements of laws and standards and the responsible SD.
The manufacturer must appoint by decree at least one responsible employee of the SD (also external), with the appropriate level of technical knowledge of welding for the range of manufactured products. In some product standards, the level of knowledge of SD (EWT \ EWE) is directly specified. The position of SD in the organization, job description, tasks and responsibilities are defined by EN ISO 14731 in the organizational chart of the company. SD is the sole responsibility of the manufacturer.
Welders and operators:
A manufacturer certified according to ISO 3834 must have sufficient welders qualified according to ISO 9606-1.There must be at least two welders for each WPQR qualified welding method.
Visual inspection staff:
Non-destructive testing (NDT) of welded joints is often specified in product standards, and common practice is to use a standardized procedure for the NDT method used. The "NDT test report" contains the detailed test results and the final weld opinion.
WPQR – qualification in welding procedures according to ISO 15614-1
A test of the welding process may be required whenever the material properties in the weld metal and the heat-affected zone are decisive for the application.
